I missed the write up, but, umm, it's too damn high to be a proper "sport truck".
That ass is WAY up in the air.

You make a good point. Here's the Lightning:
Here's a Tremor, not on a track:

Looks like another boring attempt at some edition of a Ford product.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 13:36 |

Please automakers, stop with the cheesy vinyl stickers already- they ruin the looks of the vehicles you're trying to sell to us and look like the result of too many corporate "take your kids to work" days.
We didn't want them on the Raptor and we don't want them on this.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 13:42 |
|
Graphics are an option on the Raptor. The ones in the picture are on a pace truck, so big ADVERTISING effort.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 13:46 |

To be fair it has at least two substantive difference:
- An electronic locking rear differential that’s standard for both two- and four-wheel-drive versions helps deliver the power to the pavement by improving traction during takeoff. It all has a launch-optimized 4.10 rear axle. This axle is available on the FX4, but apparently not "launch optimized".
- The only truck with said axle in a regular cab vs an extended cab.
I get where you're coming from, but Ford has delivered the goods on these types of vehicles in the past. As Patrick pointed out in his piece: "It may not be a Raptor, or a Lightning, but it's a small and affordable performance truck with a turbo engine."
![]() 08/12/2013 at 13:48 |

It's really not that high. Look at the Ram SRT-10 and Silverado SS as examples of too-tall.

You actually have to order the graphics on the SVT Raptor. I imagine it will be the same on the Tremor.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 13:51 |

Yeah but you can still do "truck stuff" like run over small things in the Tremor.
What's the point of a truck if you can't run anything over? I don't get those lowrider trucks...
![]() 08/12/2013 at 13:52 |

And the Tremor can be 4WD, but I think the Lightening was limited to 2WD.

I do like the F-150, and if you put a gun to my head to buy a massive pickup to haul giant family packs of toilet paper from Costco, the Ford would be my first choice. However, a Sport Truck is as a great of an idea as a Sportscar Utility, Luxury Lawn Tractor or a Nissan Murano Cross cabriolet.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 13:54 |
|
If i had a truck, i'm not gonna haul anything but an atv/motorbike, if i have a V6 Turbo truck, I'd want an attempt at a chassis that is lower and can handle as well.
I think what i'm really getting at is i wish there was a Ford Ranger option from overseas to buy in the states.
We need this. Not that F150.

Gotta get dat ass down.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 13:58 |

What's the price of this thing supposed to be? It's only competition would be the Ram 1500 Sport that starts at $34K. The Ram has 395hp/410'trq. You can also order a Ram Express and add the limited slip rear diff with 3:92 gears for about $26K if you want a basic pickup with almost 400 horsepower. The Ram would probably get better mileage if you drove it aggressively as well.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:02 |

Under $27k.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:04 |

Can we get an f'ing Ranger with a diesel here in the states already?!?!? GEEZE!

I still want my Ford F-150 Boomslang
Insert 2013 Shelby Gt500 motor, lower it by 4 inches, give it good tires=
Best Tonka truck ever.

So you don't like the Parcour?
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:10 |

Depends on who the "we" is. If the we is gear heads like us who love the raptor / tremor for their mechanical bits, then yes. If the we is the "OMFG those graphics are TIZIGHT look at my affliction tee brah!" (who btw, unfortunately, buy most of these vehicles), "we" very much so want graphics.
I was so into this truck until I saw the red piped seats, barf. Those and the black wheels gotta go.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:13 |
|
What is "affordable" now? I've heard it's gonna be 40k plus.....just the FX appearance stuff isn't cheap.
I've got a Ram R/T. Not really flashy, but it's a rcsb 2wd truck, and if the performance #s their talking about for this truck are accurate, mine is quicker. And the MSRP is low 30s.
Not terrible for a parts bin truck, but I think they should have stuck to 2wd, dropped it a bit, and left off the side rails to be a better "sport" truck.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:14 |
|
If that new Ranger is as big as the Toyota Hilux, then it's just a little big smaller than the F-150. Noticeable difference, but something tells me you people will be blaming Obama for the change.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:15 |
|
It would be better with 2 JZ/13B Rotary though
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:15 |
|
Where did you hear that?
If it's under $27k, they won't be able to keep them in stock. But I've heard 40k, and with the drivetrain, interior, and appearance package...that makes way more sense.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:18 |
|
I think it would be $40k-ish. No doubt. The FX4 is $43k starting out. However, this will be a regular cab, that might drop the price down before all the goodies kicks it back up again.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:18 |

What's the truck called again?
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:20 |
|
Comparing the axle centerline to the bottom of the body.... no, they're not as high.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:21 |
|
It was. And if you can get the Tremor in 4WD, it doesn't excuse not using a different ride height for 2WD versus 4WD.
Its one of the major complaints I have with current full size trucks. The damn 2WD are as high off the ground as 4WD.
And they're TOO DAMN BIG.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:22 |
|
Wut?
I want smaller truck for less weight. Again, some of us want a lighter Pre Runner or 4x4 Taco build.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:25 |

Lately I've been thinking it would be pretty badass to get a 2nd 3rd gen. F-100 and drop the 2013 GT500 motor and drivetrain in it (probably easier just to put the F-100 on the GT500 chassis..., haha)

In case all you were wondering, the Tremor was marketed to me, and I have a feeling to me only. Only thing it's missing is a floor mounted manual. 6.2L would be nice too.

They would sell eleventy billion of those if it hits that price point. I don't see it happening.
Outgoing truck model, parts bin stuff....wouldn't be a bad idea though, lower price instead of big rebates. Although I'm not sure how it would effect value on next gen? Might make a price jump look worse.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:34 |

That's a dang good price if it sells at $27K.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:34 |

No clue. It would be a great value at $27k though.

hells yeah it would.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:41 |

I don't think the Tremor is in any way, shape or form marketed to people who want a diesel Ranger.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:41 |
|
Simple solution: Ford brings the Ranger and Falcon Ute to the US. Choices abound, everyone is happy.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:44 |
|
The tremor compete's with the Ram R/T, 4.10 rear gear with a different stall convertor, and the upscale interior
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:44 |
|
Even if Ford can get the Tremor out the door for 34k I think it will be competitive with the Ram Express. The interior on the Ram Express is god awful, and 4x4 availability on the Tremor is a great feature. If they price it at 40k+ it will be a damn shame because then I'll just buy the damn Ram, and I'm a Ford guy.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:58 |

Looks nice - but I've got a kid on the way and a regular cab truck is hard to justify. Also, I'm stationed in South Dakota, 2WD just ain't gonna work for me.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 14:59 |
|
I do, because it's a hybrid of sorts, specifically engineered to be what it is, as opposed to something that starts as a very specialized vehicle for towing and hauling, hence massive size, heavy solid axles, heavy body-on-ladder-frame construction, etc, that is made into a 'sport' something because it has a ton of horsepower. Yes, you can make it handle, steer and brake better than a stock F-150, but it's still very compromised. The ultimate irony is that most sport trucks have a reduced towing and load capacity.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 15:10 |
|
It appears you're out of luck on the cab, but that could change, however it is available in 4WD.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 16:04 |
|
Want. One. So. Bad.
With the power Livernois Motorsports can crank out of SHOs, I can only imagine what they'll do on a RWD platform with the guts & strenght to handle it.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 16:15 |
|
Yeah, why would you want to advertise a new truck in front of a bunch of NASCAR fans? That'd just be silly......
![]() 08/12/2013 at 18:21 |
|
The FX package likely won't break the bank on this truck since you're not buying an upgraded interior for a second row of seats. Supercab and Supercrew add a bit to the price of an F150. Also, I doubt these are going to hit dealers with huge markups. Expect them to be advertised on dealer lots for about 30k. FX2 supercrews run around 35k and FX4 Supercrews run right at about 40k. No way a regular cab shortbed pickup is going to bring 40k with a standard Ecoboost.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 19:23 |
|
It's because it's practical.
First things first it's a truck, Not a sports car.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 19:37 |

The Lightning was a Bad ass truck, The Raptor is a Bad Ass truck, The Tremor is going to be a bad ass truck...............................................FORD NEEDS TO PUT A MANUAL TRANSMISSION BACK INTO THE F150's.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 19:46 |
|
A kid on the way here's your best solution Tell the wife/gf/fiance to get an SUV an then you can get the truck an you can swap vehicles depending on who's dealing with the kid. You could go the explorer sport with the ecoboost engine i recently drove one an liked it alot. It scoots pretty good for it's size.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 19:53 |
|
Really a wrankel? Most unreliable engines ever made you'd be changing apex seals more then it'd move. The 2jz is imo over rated sure it's a great motor that holds power but any engine with forged internals is capable of doing that. The only reason the engine got any fame is because everything is forged from the factory so you don't have to build the motor before you mod it.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 19:56 |
|
They should have just made a regular cab Raptor. I liked the RAM SRT10 w/4-Doors.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 19:59 |
|
A 2WD truck can still be low, usable, have a bed that can carry shit, and a towing capacity of this jacked up excuse for a SPORTS truck.
Case in point, I lived with a lowered 2WD Silverado for quite some time, and with the addition of air shocks, it could still haul and tow the same or better than it could stock.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 20:33 |

the graphic on the raptor are optional

Let me guess you live somewhere with mild Winters and good roads...
This truck is built to satisfy the needs of the majority. Most people prefer a truck to be truck height.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 22:39 |

He's upset! Don't bother him with facts!
![]() 08/12/2013 at 22:49 |

But it still can preform many more duties and functions than can almost any other vehicle, save a full size van! (and do you really want to be that guy?). It can work, play and still do your daily commute. My gas mileage is no worse then my old Mustang and better then my old Ranger. (RIP). I did not want a full size truck as a DD but had to for my business. I have been surprised how easy it has been to live with. Though if I could I'd trade it for a Sportier car any day, it would just have to have the hauling capacity of my F-150. I can't afford both!
![]() 08/12/2013 at 23:19 |
|
Wisconsin sooooo not so much. Drove it all last winter, too.
![]() 08/12/2013 at 23:42 |
|
That's the problem, it's not all that smaller, and it doesn't weigh all that much less.
Which is my biggest fear for the reintroduction of the Colorado, that they'll make it too big and too expensive.
![]() 08/13/2013 at 00:05 |

That's not what I'd consider a ton of snow though.
![]() 08/13/2013 at 01:23 |

My only complaint? No flare sides. I just want a goddamn short bed with flare sides. Is that too much to ask?
![]() 08/13/2013 at 02:04 |

A reasonable request.
![]() 08/13/2013 at 04:59 |

I live in Calgary, AB, Canada we get a fair amount of snow, honestly as long as you have say 4-10 inches of clearance with snow tyres and dont drive like a ass hat, you'll be fine you don't need to be that high in the air.
![]() 08/13/2013 at 06:33 |

Would a 4-wheeler fit between the wheel wells?
![]() 08/13/2013 at 07:13 |
|
Still for the majority of guys that buy the truck they'll never want it lower.
It doesn't make sense for Ford to make a truck only appeal to a small group of people.
![]() 08/13/2013 at 08:11 |
|
The Tremor would compete more with the Ram R/T then the Express. The R/T has a different torque converter and a 4.10 LSD to get the power down better. Unfortunately it still only uses a stock 5.7L.
![]() 08/13/2013 at 08:37 |
|
The advertising could have been done better if these are the graphics they've chosen. My issue is that these (cheesy stickers) will most definitely make it to production and will probably not be 'optional'.
![]() 08/13/2013 at 08:43 |
|
Venting actually. I gladly accept factual information as such and thanks for pointing out that they're optional graphics... I'll be slightly less disgusted. I just get mad when I see something with a lot of potential ruined by poorly-placed/designed stickers or 'go-faster' stripes.
![]() 08/13/2013 at 10:27 |
|
Why? It tells people exactly what it is. You know....like a NASCAR vehicle. Not that I like them either, but it's marketing. I HIGHLY doubt that these stickers will be forced upon buyers. Hell, they aren't even the same ones that Ford showed originally.
Honestly, I could deal with this one.
![]() 08/13/2013 at 10:36 |
|
Fair, the 'Tremor' on that example is much more toned-down.
I would think that- with an infield replete with billboards- they would be able to toss an ad or two for the trucks up on those... or whatever the equivalent of the videotron is. Maybe even show them laying a little rubber or doing a fast-lap- to demonstrate the performance aspect that they're trying to sell the truck based on. I'm not sure about track rules, or if such hoonage would compromise a track's surface before a race- but I'll throw it out there
![]() 08/13/2013 at 11:26 |

i'm in the same boat...furiously runs over to carmax to check SRT-10 Ram prices again
![]() 08/13/2013 at 11:28 |
|
gahhhh those are sexy pick ups...and it'd be really cool if they offered it in a manual...like i'd buy it cool...
oh and because I'm cheesy, I would get a RWD and lower it a bit (like them lowered SRT10s) and if SVT made an appearance package, I'd get it.
![]() 08/13/2013 at 11:29 |
|
it is high, but it looks much higher in those press shots because they're on a banked track.
but don't worry, there is no law that voids a warranty if you replace the shocks and springs on your truck
![]() 08/13/2013 at 12:07 |
|
The SRT 10 is such a sweet ride, and the prices are great. Delete the ridiculous spoiler and I'm all in. Actually, the only thing that really bugs me about the SRT10 is it's not 4x4. I'm a truck guy through and through, and for me a truck has 4x4.
![]() 08/13/2013 at 12:16 |
|
i think the RWD kind of "made" the SRT-10.
But seriously, a 2006 model regular cab with the interior luxury package is one of my ideal trucks.
2 seats, proper center console, proper dash with a real navigation system, 8.3l engine making 550hp, a hard tonneu cover which is removable (for bed rider seats!, and a removable spoiler (i'm cheesy and think it's cool haha)
The 06 was the facelift of that generation and there were a handful of SRT-10s made like that...so you can get real plastics not the crap that the older Rams had and comfy buckets instead of a bench and all that jazz
![]() 08/13/2013 at 12:18 |

subtract the rear doors and you get what i mean
![]() 08/13/2013 at 12:21 |

Incase you are actually interested, the lead designer for the Tremor, Brian Bell, held a live chat on edmunds.com about the Tremor.
He confirmed it will
start
at $38k. Which is ridiculous considering the competition.
You can get a rcsb tundra with a 5.7l negotiated for ~$32k. The ram express rcsb starts at $26k. A Ram SRT-10 with a viper V-10, rcsb, and MANUAL can be had for 25-35k with low miles.
In short: I'm out.
Full chat here:
F-150 Tremor Talk with Brian Bell, F-150 Marketing Manager
Ford really screwed the pooch on this one. By the time you add the options you are in Raptor territory.

Unfortunately, it looks like I was right:
